This is the same work: your full record, read by a sub-specialist in your cancer type, with a written analysis and time to talk it through. The difference is that we do it without the wait, without the travel, and without the overhead a private practice has to charge for.
“Typical cost” reflects published ranges for self-pay specialist second opinions. Prices vary widely by country, institution, and specialty.
Why this costs $175–$400, and a private visit costs more
Most of the fee covers real cost: digitizing and processing pathology slides and radiology imaging, and paying the specialist for their time. Those two things are the bulk of it.
The reason it isn’t $1,000+ is that we’ve removed the expensive parts of a private consultation that have nothing to do with your case. No clinic, no front desk, no scheduling department, no room you travel to. The specialist reads your case when they have the time to read it properly, rather than in a booked appointment slot. What you’re paying for is their judgment, not the building it usually happens in.
We’re a company and we do make a margin on this — that’s what lets us keep improving the product and keep the free tier genuinely free. But the margin is a fraction of what a private consultation carries, and the price is set to be reachable rather than to be maximized. We think a specialist’s read on your case shouldn’t depend on where you live or what you can afford.
Facing a decision in the next few days?
That’s exactly when to use this. If you’re scheduled for surgery, starting treatment, or being asked to sign a consent form this week, tell us the date when you upload. Cases with a deadline go first, and most reviews come back the same day.
Don’t postpone or cancel scheduled treatment while you wait for us. If a review raises something worth discussing, bring it to your treating doctor — that conversation can happen right up to the day of surgery.
What a review can’t do
- We can't examine you or order tests. Everything is based on the records you provide.
- We don't take over your treatment. Your oncologist remains your doctor; our review is written for you to bring to them.
- If you're physically unwell right now, this isn't the right place. For chest pain, trouble breathing, uncontrolled bleeding, or any sudden change in your condition, call your local emergency number or go to your nearest emergency department.
Pricing FAQ
No. Every paid review is a one-time charge. We don't store your card for future billing.
You aren't charged. If we can't match your case to a specialist with the right sub-specialty, we tell you before taking payment and refund anything already paid.
A review — including any pathology or radiology re-reads — is fully refundable if we confirm the mistake was ours (an error in SOClarity’s guidance or the specialist’s review). Otherwise, you can cancel and be refunded any time before your specialist begins the review; once a completed review has been delivered, it is not refundable unless the mistake was ours.
